Clearance FAQs

Answers to your common questions about house clearances and services

FAQs

What items do you take?

We remove furniture, appliances, garden waste, and general household clutter. We can remove soft floor coverings such as carpets and carry out minor demolitions in select cases. We are not plumbers or electricians, so the isolation of services is best left to professionals!

What happens to the stuff you take away?

Items are sorted for recycling, donation, or responsible disposal to reduce landfill waste. We have good working relationships with local charity shops, reuse centers, and upcyclers, which means we can direct items appropriately so they are not 'thrown away'.

How much does clearance cost?

Costs vary depending on volume and location, but typical house clearances range between four hundred pounds and eight hundred pounds based on a terraced property with good access and an average amount of items to be removed. Please note this is a very rough guide, we can usually offer a no obligation quote within a few days of request.

What areas do you cover?

We serve the Caerphilly and surrounding areas, typically within a 1 hour drive.

Do you offer free clearances?

Free clearances are typically not possible. While we endeavour to re-home as much as we can and mitigate tipping costs, this is not always possible - particularly for items such as mattresses and large wardrobes.

You charge more than the local authority to remove certain single items - why is this?

In accordance with our waste carrier license, we exclusively utilize certified commercial tips (Vans are prohibited at local waste transfer stations). These facilities provide reduced rates for councils. However, please note that local authorities generally take much longer than businesses like ours and have strict guidelines regarding what, when, and how items should be left for disposal.

What Info do you need from me to get a price/quotation?
What advice can you give to someone faced with having to clear a house?

Based on our own experiences, we recognize how overwhelming it can be to manage the belongings of someone's life, especially when tied to significant memories. We always recommend seeking professional assistance. If you choose to undertake the task by yourself, remember to be aware of deadlines related to property sales or council repossessions. Additionally, consider that the work involved in filling skips can be quite taxing, even for the most capable individuals. Utilizing services like Foxhound may often be more economical than hiring skips, allowing you to save money and reclaim time for more pressing concerns.

Does anyone need to be present during the clearance work?

No, we can arrange to collect and return keys with stakeholders or utilize a key safe when available. We recognize that some customers like to stay informed during a clearance, so we have no objections to Ring cameras and similar devices being left on. In the past, we have provided a 'video walkthrough' at the conclusion of each workday for customers who cannot be present in person, offering additional reassurance.

We price every job individually so each customer is only paying for the true cost of their needs rather than a 'set rate'. To offer a price we usually need:

location of property, how easy it is to access, how much stuff needs removing (pictures help) and when you need the work carried out.

How long does a clearance take?

Most house clearances typically require between 1 to 2 days, influenced by the size and complexity of the job. Gardens and outbuildings often extend the timeframe. For some clients, we have distributed the work across several days to allow them to retrieve keepsakes and manage additional tasks like meter readings, among others.
